GEOTHERMAL DRILLING

Mark MacDonald of Lloyd Warwick made an interesting presentation about geothermal drilling to OPERA on 11^th May 2021.

The risks of drilling thermal wells are much the same as the risks of drilling hydrocarbon wells – except that the product is not flammable! losses are not large, but in most cases the steam produced is used to generate electrical power and the power stations can incur substantial losses.

The thermal wells do tend to be in stunningly beautiful locations and so are well worth surveying! Kamchatka calls!
